Our new formula now contains Chromium Picolinate. A possible function of Chromium is to enhance insulin action, which might contribute to carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolism. In turn, this could support healthy blood sugar levels which may help to reduce cravings. Chromium Picolinate also plays a role in supporting metabolism.

Bio-Enhanced® Na-R-Alpha Lipoic Acid is one of the most potent and well researched antioxidants available and a key addition to the Berberine+ formula. Alpha Lipoic Acid is unique among antioxidants in that it is both water and fat soluble, meaning it can work in virtually every tissue and cell type in the body - something most antioxidants cannot do. The R form is the naturally occurring and more bioactive form, and the Bio-Enhanced® sodium salt version significantly improves stability and absorption compared to standard ALA. ALA supports mitochondrial energy production, helps regenerate other antioxidants including vitamin C, vitamin E and glutathione, and has been well studied for its role in supporting healthy blood sugar, nerve health and cardiovascular function - making it a highly synergistic addition alongside berberine and chromium in this formula.

Biotin (vitamin B7) plays an essential role in energy metabolism, supporting the body's ability to convert carbohydrates, fats and proteins into usable energy. It is particularly relevant in the context of blood sugar regulation as it works alongside chromium to support healthy glucose metabolism and insulin function. Biotin also supports healthy hair, skin and nail function and is involved in gene regulation and cellular signalling. Yes, we recently updated the Berberine+ formula and the changes reflect our ongoing commitment to using the most effective and evidence backed ingredients available. The previous formula contained Berberine, Silymarin (Milk Thistle) and Chromium Picolinate. In the new formula we have upgraded to HIMABERB® Berberine for significantly enhanced bioavailability, replaced Silymarin with Bio-Enhanced® Na-R-Alpha Lipoic Acid - a considerably more potent and versatile antioxidant - and added Biotin to further support energy metabolism and blood sugar regulation. Chromium Picolinate remains in the formula. The result is a more comprehensive, more bioavailable and more powerful formula that covers more ground than the previous version while maintaining the core berberine and chromium benefits our customers know and love.

We recommend taking Berberine+ with or just after a light meal, ideally in the morning with breakfast. Taking it alongside food is important for two reasons - it maximises the blood sugar and metabolic support benefits of berberine and chromium, which work most effectively in the context of eating, and it also helps avoid the mild gastrointestinal discomfort that berberine can occasionally cause when taken on a completely empty stomach. Morning is our preferred timing as it supports your metabolic response at the start of the day, but the most important thing is consistency - taking it at the same time each day will deliver the best results over time.
